Feeling blue...

Blue nail polish is a very easy way to make a fashion statement at the moment.
Whack a layer on and you're trendy - easy as that.
Chanel's Blue Satin Nail Polish is a very nice way to do it but at a price. It's sold out of a lot of shops but ebay are selling it off at £16.99.
There are other alternatives. I got a decent Asda one the other day for something ridiculous like £1.99. Do it.

Marion Cotillard at Sunday night's Oscars
I loved Marion Cotillard's dress at the Oscars. Click here for a video of her acceptance speech and watch how nicely it moves.
I haven't seen La Vie En Rose yet but the trailer looks fantastic and the outfits are great too.
Ebay-tastic

Can't be bothered dragging yourself around town, getting all sweaty in changing rooms just to see lots of other people in the dress you spent hours selecting? Well, my trend of today is Ebay. I spent five minutes browsing the site and found you some fantastic buys.
This dress is currently £7 with only 4 hours, 22 minutes to go.
Pink Oasis Marylin Monroe style dress is £9.95 with 5 hours, 44 minutes to go.
Black and gold party dress £8 with 15 hours, 41 minutes to go.
Green satin frill dress £17.99 with just over a day to go.
This kaftan dress is £9.50 with 1 day, four hours to go
TEA DRESSES

You HAVE to have a Tea Dress this spring. No ifs, no buts, just go out and get one. Here's a selection but my money's on floral prints leading the trend.

Fairtrade Fashion Interview
Posted by Jo Kelly on February 14, 2008 9:03 AM
Katharine Hamnett was interviewed on Radio 4 this morning about how she plans to save the world through fashion.
We're all meant to feel bad about wearing cheap clothes from places like Primark, which we throw away rather than repair. It's nice - in theory - to think we could all wear organic cotton t-shirts and fairtrade knickers, which we sit by the fire and darn when they get a hole or the elastic snaps.
I do not have the time or money for that and I won't let people with bags of cash and "people" to do their every bidding make me feel bad.
The oh-so-moral website has t-shirts with slogans like "Save the World" for the oh-so-expensive price of £40. I'll stick to £4 from Primark, thanks.

Sneak Peek at Visiter Shoes
Posted by Jo Kelly on February 12, 2008 10:34 AM
I took some sneaky snaps of my colleagues' footwear this morning. What do you think?
These were the early birds into the office so I'll have another look in a bit. Hopefully, I'll find a bit of colour. Saying that - I'm in black boots too. Eeekk.
Check out the latest Jimmy Choo shoes below. I like the red ones.

Shoes and politics
Posted by Jo Kelly on February 11, 2008 5:31 PM
Just a quick note before I leave the office. Check out Meghan McCain's blog. She's John McCain's daughter - the most likely man to be the Republican's nomination in the US Presidential election.
She talks about all sorts of things from politics and her life on the campaign trail to Arnold Schwarzenegger's shoes.
Send me an email to let me know what you think of it jo.kelly@liverpool.com

Which did you love and which did you hate? My favourite had to be the black and white top hat ensemble although the burst of colour on the clown is really trendy. The pink skirt could also make it's way to the high street as full skirts are everywhere at the moment. Jo x
Return of the mac
Posted by Kathryn Carr on February 8, 2008 11:08 AM
The mac is back!
The worst of the winter is finally behind us, and what better way to step out in spring than in a mac?

How gorgeous does Kate look in hers?
The high street is full of different shapes, weights and colours for you to choose from.
This one's quite cool, from Per Una, for £65

But for those of you who consider this a little.. low key.. there's always Angelina's more vibrant version..

Pop down to Warehouse. Bet Lynch would be proud.

Money Mags

My boyfriend bought me a fantastic Christmas present - a year's subscription to a magazine of my choice.
I chose GRAZIA because I thought it would be classy and not too expensive for my reporter's wage. How wrong I was!!! Any magazine which has a dress in it for £24,500 is far and away out of my price range. There was hardly anything I could afford and it left me bitterly disappointed.
As soon as I finish writing this I'm off to my boss' desk to ask for a pay rise so I don't have to swap my Grazia subscription to the Matalan catalogue.
Rant over.

Belt Up
Posted by Jo Kelly on February 6, 2008 9:22 AM
If you're going to pop out and buy anything on your lunchbreak - make sure it's a skinny belt.
You can probably get one for the change rattling round at the bottom of your bag and it will drag most outfits into 2008.
The one on the left is a Red Slim Snake Waist Belt from Dorothy Perkins for £5. The one on the right is part of a pack of two from Asos.com for £12 (the other is black).
If it's not too far from pay day then try to buy one really colourful belt and a more subtle one like black, grey, brown or similar.
Scouse Fashion Star Spotted Today

In my blog last week I mentioned a great fashion show called Project Catwalk. (It was more about drama than designs though.) A contact called me before to say they'd seen scouse contestant Katy O'Grady on the Liverpool underground about 9am looking super trendy.
Have you seen any celebrities recently? Give me a call on 01704 398 229 and let me know what they were wearing. Jo x
Fairytale Fashion
Posted by Jo Kelly on February 4, 2008 9:44 AM
I went to see a film yesterday and the costumes made it.
CLICK ON THE PHOTOS TO SEE BIGGER VERSIONS OF THEM
It starts as a Disney-esque cartoon with a beautiful maiden (Amy Adams) and a handsome prince (James Marsden) singing a loved up duet.
The Queen (dressed as an ugly old hag of course) pushes the maiden down a well on her wedding day. The bride-to-be then pops up in New York city (the place where there are no happy endings she cackles).

The pretty wannabe-princess then meets the pragmatic Patrick-Grey's-Anatomy-Dempsey and falls for him instead.

The costumes are brilliantly done because they radiate fairytale while fitting nicely into the reality of the story when needed to. Jo x
RISING STAR

Adam Whittaker, an art and design student from Southport College, was one of five finalists in a BBC fashion competition.
The competition is run in partnership with designer Matthew Williamson and Adam's design was exhibited at the Design Museum Space in London last month.
Judges described his Gothic Chic dress as edgy and bold. Well Done Adam.
